A multi-generational trip to Vietnam in late December:
The family started in Hanoi with cool mornings and lantern-lit alleys, ate their way through the old quarter with our guide Hoa, and watched the grandmother (an explorer at heart) fall in love with a new city.
Then, an overnight cruise through Ha Long Bay — kayaks and caves for the kids, deck chairs and bay views for everyone else. Perfect for the whole family.
Next, two days of chill on Da Nang beach, a day trip to a silk village in Hoi An, where the designer daughter found the exact silk fabric she had been seeking out for months.
The family ended their journey in Ho Chi Minh, where the young musician son found his live music scene, and the elders (tired of all the non-veg by now) found comfort in a vegan restaurant that felt like a rainforest.
Eight days. Six people. One itinerary that somehow belonged to each of them.
